Advanced Topics in Human-Computer Interaction
Seminar, SS 2008
Description:
In this seminar we will read and discuss current papers from top conferences in the area of human-computer interaction, such as CHI, UIST, MobileHCI, and selected journal articles. Here is a short description of each paper:
Paper overviews.
Each week we will have an in-depth discussion of one article. One participant will act as a kind of shepherd of the article, which includes a short presentation (15 minutes) and the preparation of a few discussion questions. The presenter should also read the most important related work that is referred to in the paper. All participants are expected to have read the article before class to be prepared for the discussion.
A presentation template is provided here. The goal of the discussion is to identify the contribution of the paper, its significance to HCI, open issues, and ideas for future work. Students don't need to produce a writeup, but a short summary of the discussion.
The seminar is suitable for students with basic knowledge in human-computer interaction. Students will learn how to analyze conference and journal articles in order to understand the core idea and the contribution to the field, as well as identify open questions and opportunities for future work.
